On December 17th, 2020, the residents of the Village of South Nyack voted to dissolve their village and their 142-year-old government. This choice was met with overwhelming approval, with a vote of 508-292. The main factor behind the proposal was to alleviate the tax burden for South Nyack residents. The village government also had trouble keeping their services operational and their government employees paid. It was decided that dissolving the village was in the community’s best interest. As of March 31st, 2022, the village of South Nyack is officially dissolved. It is now considered a Hamlet of Orangetown. All legal matters in South Nyack will be handled by the Orangetown town government. All matters that would otherwise be handled at the South Nyack Village Court will now be adjudicated in the Orangetown Town Court. This means all traffic tickets will now go to the Orangetown court. This includes all open and pending cases. If you have a suspension from South Nyack, you have to go to Orangetown to clear the suspension. For more information on Orangetown, please visit our dedicated page.
